2.  I am awful at keeping in touch with people.

3.  I trust very few people in the world.  Actually, I only trust my boyfriend 100% and that took years of beating my wall down with a hammer.  He enjoys the scenery behind the wall now

5.  One time I was shadowing a nurse in the ER and he had a huge unicorn tattoo on his forearm.  I couldn’t stop laughing.

6.  I have a horrible aversion to blood, which is terrible, considering that I want to work in a trauma ER.  How do you get over this, I’m afraid I’m going to faint and things like that when I start residency… how utterly embarassing!

7.  My dad is a angry racist narcissistic psycho that engineers machine guns and steals money from people.  Parents divorced when I was a month old or so and my dad stopped visitation when I was like 10-ish.  I used to be upset that he left me like that and I tried to get in touch with him, but he is still mental and insists on things like he invented the pacemaker.  Dumbass.  I’m glad he’s out of my life.

8.  One time my friend in 5th grade told me that her little sister masturbated so much in the bathtub that her vagina turned green and they had to take her to the doctor.  We got in a fight a while after that and I was so mad that she didn’t try to make up with me that I told everyone about her sister’s green vagina.  She yelled at me about it and was really upset.  I still feel bad about it.  If I ever see her again I will tell her I’m sorry!

9.  I have a habit of rubbing my scalp and face when I’m stressed out.

10.  I may have a Siberia-cold exterior, but my inside is soft gooey sticky Givenchy Pop Gloss Crystal in Glitter Parm.    Not many people get to that part though.  The exterior is cold and hard to keep out the assholes.

Well, a couple of months ago, I was extremely sick.  I came down with a fever and chills, bronchitis, the whole 9 yards.  I couldn’t stop coughing, it eventually got so bad that I had to take whiskey shots to go to sleep, and sometimes I tasted blood when I coughed.

So about a week after the horrible coughing thing started, I noticed a little red bump on my stomach, right by my belly button.  I wasn’t sure what it was (a bug bite?), so I put some Neosporin on it.  lol that usually seems to fix everything.  It didn’t go away.  It actually grew.  Then I took a closer look at it and started freaking out- OMG- it was a circular lesion.  Stupid, duh, I obviously must have RINGWORM!  I must have gotten it from the gym, I was so pissed off.  I called my gym and started a bitchfest about them needing to clean their machines better, this is ridiculous, blah blah blah.  You have to understand, I am a complete germophobe and I clean all the machines at the gym before using them anyway, but that was the only place I thought I could have gotten it.  And my poor little dog.  He had a weird habit of licking one of his paws, and it started to look red and scaly between his toes so I freaked out like omfg my dog has ringworm too, he must have given it to me!  ahhhhh

So, I called my doctor.  I’m a new patient and he doesn’t have any appointments for new patients until a week from now.  I ended up going to a clinic down the street to get some opiate cough syrup for my cough.  They gave me some antibiotics but told me to wait 7-10 days for the symptoms to persist before taking the antibiotics, because a viral infection would only last a maximum of 7-10 days and antibiotics are useless for viral infections.  They loaded me up with an albuterol inhaler (and diagnose me with some “reactive airway disease”- wtf- “what is that, I don’t have a disease”-”I know honey, it’s just so that we all get paid”-”so I don’t have a disease?”- “no, honey”- “ok whatever…”), oral steroids (nope, not taking that shit, hello I’m sick I need all the strength of my immune system…), and some opiate cough syrup.  Then, I showed them my mark, which I have carefully band-aided so as not to infect other people in my house, and the nurse practitioner says that it’s definitely ringworm.  She gave me anti-fungal cream with a little sheet on how to deal with ringworm and I go on my merry way.

At 10 days, I came down with full blown pneumonia.  After finishing the antibiotics, I was doing alright, I wasn’t really sure if it helped at all, but whatever.  Then as I’m recovering, I got some weird sneezy/runny nose/post-nasal drip/allergic reaction thing going on and I loaded up on anti-allergy meds and made it through.  My poor immune system sure took a beating… Since I got the antifungal cream, I had been applying it to the “ringworm” and it wasn’t doing a thing.  I started putting more cream on, more frequently.  Still, nothing was happening except that my skin was getting severely irritated.  FML.  

I go in for a dermatologist appointment to get some Retin-A, I just finished having a severe breakout a month ago because I was taking the worst birth control on the planet- NuvaRing (another story for another day)… while I’m there, I show her my “ringworm”, which seemed to be fading away, she couldn’t even see it.  She mentioned something about eczema, or having a viral reaction, of course, I said “nahhhhhh I don’t have eczema or a virus, it’s just stupid ringworm”, because I’m sooo fucking brilliant, right, and a dermatologist couldn’t possibly know more than me about what the stupid red circle on my stomach is… she told me to call her if it gets worse, which it totally wasn’t.  It was on it’s way out.  Maybe it was even gone.  I didn’t even see a red circle anymore!  

Back at home, I’m doing everything on the planet to make sure that nobody else in the house gets ringworm.  I’m using one towel a day, not even touching it to the “ringworm” zone and washing all towels that I’ve used in hot water.  All my clothes are going in hot water.  I’m getting pissed b/c I’m wondering how I’m going to wash my delicate cycle clothes in hot water, which will surely ruin them.  I bought antibacterial soap, so that I can’t catch any more crap from the gym.  I’m putting antifungal cream on my dog’s foot and putting a cloth bootie on it so that it won’t touch anything.  

One day, my boyfriend and I met his parents outside of a restaurant for drinks before going in to eat.  While outside, my boyfriend’s mom says she is getting bitten by mosquitoes.  I kind of feel itchy too, must be the mosquitoes.  My shirt is thin, they must be biting me through it.  After dinner, I get home and as I’m changing into my pajamas, I notice that my breasts and upper stomach have little red spots all over, the size of mosquito bites.  How the fuck did the mosquitoes even get into my BRA?!  Determined little assholes.  I am so pissed off.  I asked my boyfriend, “there were mosquitoes outside right?  and they were biting your mom?”, he agrees.  I put Neosporin on all my bites and go to sleep.  

A couple of days later, I kind of start to notice things about the spots that are uncharacteristic of bug bites.  Ex: no raised little bump, the spot is flat and smooth; they are sticking around a little longer than usual bug bites; they feel worse after a really hot shower… then, they start to grow and multiply and look like ringworm.  FUCK MY LIFE!  All the precautions I had taken to prevent ringworm from spreading didn’t work!  Ohhh this is horrible, I am so upset.  I feel like a walking disease.  I put antifungal cream on each little bump and bandaid them.  Eventually, I have 7 or so bandaids all over, mostly on my chest and breasts.  I felt like a leper that should be shipped off to a leper colony (hello, don’t forget… I’m a germophobe… I know this reaction is probably abnormal for most people).  My boyfriend said he still thinks I’m hot… which is amazing, considering that I felt like the most disgusting human being on the planet at the moment.  I have a good cry and then go to sleep.  

The next morning, I call my dermatologist to give me a prescription for antifungal pills to make this shit go away already.  I have to take 2 pills a day, every 12 hours, for 6 weeks.  UGH!  Oh well, if it will help, I’ll do it.  

Two days later, I have to go to my annual gynecologist visit.  Antifungal pills haven’t worked at all yet.  The assistant told me that my gyno was going to do my annual breast exam that day too and to put a silly paper top on.  I told her that she couldn’t possibly want to do that, I have ringworm all over my chest and I have bandaids all over them too.  The assistant’s eyes widened, practically fell out of her sockets, and then she walked out.  I started sobbing and trying to blot my tears before the gyno comes in.  She comes in and asks me how I’m doing and what’s going on, and I tell her my allergies are acting up b/c I’m sure she is looking at my puffy eyes.  Then she asks about my chest and I start sobbing.  I told her what’s been going on, that I have rampant ringworm and nothing seems to be helping and that I feel like a horrible walking disease.  She’s really nice and great and tells me to go back to the dermatologist and show them what happened.  

I call the dermatologist and tell the assistant what’s happening and she says that 2 days isn’t enough for the pills to work yet, and to come in if it doesn’t get better in 3 more days.  I don’t want it to get worse!  So, like a baby, I start sobbing again (I’m usually extremely tough, but this whole thing just reduced me to tears) and she says I can come in if I would really like to.  Yes, I am coming in! 

So I go into the dermatologist, who takes one look and says, “oh, you don’t have ringworm at all!  You have pityriasis rosea!”.  ”WHAT?! WHAT DO YOU MEAN?!” “you can take all your bandaids off, because you are not contagious.  stop taking your antifungal pills and cream, they won’t help.  this will go away on it’s own in 4-8 weeks.” *silence* omfg.  I don’t have ringworm.  ”so you’re 100% sure I don’t have ringworm and I’m not contagious?” “yes”.  Oh this is just insane.  So she explains to me that it’s common in young women, it is basically an allergic reaction to a virus that caused a previous respiratory tract infection.  My pneumonia!  ahhhhhhh!  Well, this is great news.  I’m not contagious!  No more stupid antifungal meds!  It goes away on it’s own!  She said it might get worse though… and that first thing I thought was ringworm?  It’s called a “herald patch”.  It’s like the herald patch UFO lands on you and releases a bunch of little alien babies all over your body and they show up a few days later as more little red spots.  Yay.  The spots only tend to stick to places that don’t see the sun, except your mucous membranes/pubic area.  So, typically a person’s trunk is the only place that is covered, and going out and tanning is good b/c somehow UV light damages it (might leave a dark mark on yr skin though that may take longer to fade).  

In the next 4 weeks after that, I developed ~100 spots all over my trunk.  Things that made it worse:  very hot showers, rigorous gym workouts, covering up with clothes.  Things that made it better:  cold environment, colder showers, tank tops & short shorts .  I didn’t stop working out or taking hot showers or wearing pants, but I suspect if I had, it would have gone away faster.  All in all, it took 5 hellacious weeks to totally go away.  The whole time I was a little paranoid because I read some isolated stories of it taking a year or two to go away… but now it’s totally gone… a few spots disappeared at a time… now I’m spot free!  No more pityriasis rosea!  Yay!

And that was the story of the time I got pityriasis rosea, the paranoia that ensued, and how it went away.  One thing that is good- it’s like chickenpox- after you get it once, you will probably never get it again.  For this I am grateful lol

I wrote this partially because when I found out I had pityriasis rosea, I searched wordpress to see if anyone had blogged about it, and they had, for which I am thankful, because reading everyone else’s stories made me feel much better…  hopefully reading this made someone else feel better.  If you haven’t had pityriasis rosea yet, be thankful, and for those who have it now and are suffering through it, don’t worry, it will be over soon.  :)

PS- chances are, you won’t ever come down with this… the odds are 1/1000… why couldn’t I be 1/1000 people that won the lottery, or a free carwash?!  c’est la vie… at least now you know what’s up if you spontaneously get these mysterious red spots on your body…

1.  Stila It Gloss ohhhh this is my favorite lipgloss ever.  I have it in “enticing” (light sparkly pink) and I constantly reach for it.  It smells good, tastes good, I love the color and it really sticks around.  You can pretty much only order it on Stila’s website now.  I am so mad that Sephora and Ulta do not carry it anymore, they have this awful “Lip Glaze” instead, which is a big disaster in a bottle.  Do not get the Lip Glaze, ever!  I got it once, thinking it would be comparable to the It Gloss- hell no.  It is a big goopy mess, it gets everywhere and does not go on evenly.  I *hate* Stila Lip Glaze.  

2.  Bare Escentuals Buxom Lips I have this in Dominique, which is clear and sparkly.  I love it.  It has plumper in it, which works decently but doesn’t have that lip-numbing effect that some plumpers do.  It has a vanilla-mintish flavor, which is not overpowering but it’s there, and it’s tasty.  I can say that I really looooove the brush on this one.  Watch out though, only Dominique comes with the brush, the other colors come with this applicator-tip thingie (hate it!).  This lipgloss just feels really nice and looks great with smoky eyes.

3.  Lancome Color Fever Gloss I have this in Volcanic Pink, which is an iridescent sparkly, shimmery pink.  I wore it exclusively for about 3 months.  You will fall in love with this lipgloss!  The applicator brush is pretty awesome, it tastes good and the colors are really attractive.  I really like the bottle design too, it’s clever, not the typical cylindrical lipgloss tube you usually see.  Try Lancome’s Juicy Tubes too, they taste great and add a nice clear shine to your pucker.

4.  Philosophy Pumpkin Spice Muffin Lip Shine OK let’s put this out there- I am obsessed with pumpkin flavor.  I love pumpkin pie, pumpkin muffins, pumpkin cookies, pumpkin candles… you get the picture.  When Philosophy announced this lipgloss I was beside myself with joy!  I was skeptical at first, you never think that an imitation flavor/scent will live up to the actual thing, but OMG this lipgloss totally does.  It’s heaven in a tube (if you love pumpkin).  The consistency and color are great and the flavor is to die for!  If you don’t like pumpkin (weirdo!), philosophy also has like 10 other lipglosses at Sephora in various flavors that are also true to their names.  

5.  Lorac Couture Shine this one is very moisturizing and sticks around for a while.  I have it in haute, a nice pastel pink that stays true to the color you see on the bottle.  Another favorite of mine when paired with a smoky eye.  It tastes pretty delicious and I am a fan of the applicator brush.

and the 1 Lip Balm is….

Aveda Lip Saver SPF 15!  What an amazing lip balm this is!  No Chapstick, no organic tea tree oil lip balm, no Carmex, NOTHING can touch this!  I am a lip biter.  A very, very bad lip biter.  That’s an understatement.  When I’m stressed out, I completely annihilate my lips.  I bite them until they bleed and I peel them too.  Then I end up with sore, throbbing, raw lips.  This is the only thing that helps and nothing else on the planet does.  It feels really great and heals my lip destruction overnight.  I have had people taking Accutane ask me what to use on their lips, because they get dry, crack, and bleed.  Um, hello, this is it.  Nobody ever listens to me, they buy Chapstick, Carmex, organic tea tree oil BS and then they come back and ask “ohhh what was the name of that lip balm you recommended again?”.  Yes, this is it.  If you regularly destroy your lips, this lip balm is your BFF.  I couldn’t even do a “Top 5 Lip Balms” because everything else is pitiful and far underperforms this lip balm in comparison!
